CHUCKWAGON SPECIAL AT THE VILLAGE


If you follow the World Professional Chuckwagon Association circuit, you were in for a special treat on Saturday, April 18th at the Village Square at Pigeon Lake. Six well-known chuckwagon drivers were all there at the same time - available for visiting, handing out posters and picture opportunities. They also brought in a chuck wagon. The event was sponsored and organized by Daisy McBeans – a popular restaurant at the Village. This get-together has been three years in the making. It provided an opportunity for people to meet the drivers face-to-face, rather than trying to view them from field glasses from the stands.

SAFE SAILING AHEAD!

As some 16 million Canadian boaters prepare to launch their watercraft to catch the first waves of the season, the nation’s water enthusiasts are asked to remember that there is no fun without safety. Boating and boat-related sports are among the most popular summer activities in Canada, yet every year there are accidents and drownings that may have been prevented through knowledge of water and boating safety. The North American Safe Boating Awareness Week (NASBAW) is from May 16 to the 22 and the 2009 campaign is emphasizing five key steps to safer boating. They are:

WINFIELD FIRE DEPARTMENT

On Saturday, May 2, 2009 the Winfield Fire Department Grounds had two overturned vehicles on the property. These cars were ‘real props’ used for extrication instruction and practice. Members from various departments in the area were in attendance and given a chance to use various rescue equipment and receive instruction on how to extricate someone from a vehicle after an accident. A couple of the Peace Hills EMS staff were also present to observe the instruction.
